So So Def Recordings founder Jermaine Dupri was detained by police after what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop. According to TMZ, the traffic stop in Miami Beach, Florida led to police searching a vehicle with their K-9 unit. Dupri was a passenger in the vehicle. Dupri, as well as other passengers in the car, was patted down and searched. Police did not find marijuana or other illegal substances, but they did detain one of the passengers after discovering a Xanax.
“Somebody pls call tmz 5 police cars just pulled us over cause @tizzad @mrmauricio @yesjulz and @nickltl got the car smelling like snoop dogg,” Dupri posted on Instagram as the incident was unfolding. “Oh s–t !!they just hand cuffed @mrmauricio cause they found a Xanax OMG!!!! Lol”
Xanax is a prescription drug designed to treat anxiety, nausea and other symptoms, but it is also popularly used as a recreational drug.
“[Dupri says] he is the victim of ‘rapper profiling,'” TMZ reported. “He believes cops followed him from the nightclub he had just made an appearance at … and stopped him within minutes because he’s a celebrity. He thinks its ridiculous that cops called out the K9 unit and thinks it is massive overkill. Miami Beach PD says the stop was legit … and everything was done in accordance with procedure.”
It appears that no charges were filed in the incident.
