A teacher in New York wants to keep his job and fight a fine after being caught with a prostitute. According to the New York Daily News, Edgar Ortiz, 65, was caught with a prostitute after police found him on top of the woman while in his parked mini van.
Ortiz told police he didn’t know the woman and picked her up for $20 because she was cheap. He was arrested for solicitation and the NYPD notified the New York Department of Education about his arrest. Ortiz was removed from his elementary classroom in the Bronx and ordered to pay a $7,500 fine.
However, Ortiz believes the New York Department of Education violated his rights because he believes “solicitation is unrelated to teaching.” He has filed a lawsuit against the school system and says that teachers must have the right to exercise their own activities outside of the classroom.
Although some parents are outraged by the Ortiz lawsuit, the Manhattan Supreme Court has decided to hear his case.
Along with the solicitation arrest, Ortiz has been arrested four other times in 20 years.
