Girl, 8, kidnapped by suspected killer and no one cares

Relisha Rudd

Relisha Rudd

Once again, America’s mainstream media have given little coverage to an event that should have received national attention. Eight-year-old Relisha Rudd was a resident at a homeless shelter with her mother, Shamika Young. The little girl’s mother developed some type of personal relationship with the shelter’s janitor, Khalil Tatum, whom she trusted with her daughter. The janitor killed his wife and is now on the run with the little girl. Despite an Amber Alert being issued by the city of Washington, D.C., the states of Virginia and Maryland did not have the alert listed in their systems.

This is infuriating if you remember the kidnappings of white children, especially that of Elizabeth Smart. Every day on the news that little blond-haired girl’s picture was shown. News media seemed to make it a point to show her picture if not once a day, at least once a week. But once again we get an innocent young black girl taken by a suspected killer and the mainstream media barely covers the kidnapping.

Black people know more about a missing airplane from Malaysia than they do about a missing little black girl from Washington, D.C. Ask yourself; before you saw this article, had you heard about Relisha Rudd and if not, should you have heard?

STOP blaming the damn media for what WE as a community should be doing! If we can get on twitter in the masses and cuss out other people over those who don’t care for Boring Beyonce or to attack a celebrity for saying what we feel is the wrong thing, then why can’t we spread the word and bring awareness to something that we believe in??? Stop pointing finger, waiting on White America to do what WE can do for ourselves!

CNN.com has a video article about the tragedy. Yes we as a community NEED to do more about fixing the ills and to not depend on other communities.
You don’t see other communities asking TV1, BET, Centric, Rolling Out for help
If you can breakdown the housewives crap and have deep conversation along with so called solutions, you can spead the word about real drama happening in our community and provide REAL SOLUTIONS. Pray for this child, pray for our communities.

I live in MD I had herd of her and she’s posted up on my page for a few days now… That Elizabeth smart girl… I never heard of…. As far as the amber alert it’s difficult to categorize as such because the mom gave her to this man she wasn’t kidnapped or reported for a while… The circumstances of that may have affected the whole amber alert thing but since you clearly don’t have details on that we don’t currently know now do we?

    • Mo Barnes on March 29, 2014 at 7:41 pm

Yes we do have the details “bittersweet” please read my latest post!

  5. soisaid on March 28, 2014 at 11:44 am

God cares…. then i care. by the way, i wonder does she have family. like grandparents, aunts, cousins…

  6. bittersweer on March 28, 2014 at 12:49 pm

In the news I read today the little girls mom refused the amber alert for a fee days/weeks…. Just so you know and coverage in MD is crazy even my husband who could care less knows the details of this case

When will RO heed the clarion call to do more?

    • Mo Barnes on March 29, 2014 at 4:28 pm

Like what. RO has covered the story when other outlets have not. I’ve been on Atlanta radio talking about a Washington DC case. WHat are you doing? HAve you asked your media outlets to cover the situation?

  8. prayur on March 28, 2014 at 4:56 pm

I live in Philly, this the first I heard of it and agree with RO that this story should have a national media blitz, its sensational like they (the media) like it, it went down in our nations capital, and has sexual connotations. So why the cold shoulder? Poor and black, that’s why. They don’t care about us. WE better pray like all get out and BEG God to get this BABY to safety

BUT THIS IS REALLY SAD AND I PRAY WE GET TOGETHER IN CITIES AND RALLY AGAINST THE MEDIA … IGNORANCE ON THIS MATTER

    • Mo Barnes on March 29, 2014 at 7:44 pm

He’s been stabbed, imprisoned, receive death
threats daily fly all over the country spreading the word on truth, calling
for justice for black people. He’s marched hundreds
of miles, and called the oppressor a liar to his face. He’s been vilified.
marginalized and yet will still eulogize a child shot by a stray bullet.
Please tell me how much all of that is worth? At what point did
he get his sell out money?

Change starts with you, so kindly include the name Relisha Rudd in the title of this piece? #appreciated

    • Mo Barnes on March 30, 2014 at 9:53 am

Hi Miles, I am constrained by title length with what is called SEO. Her name appears in the Meta Description and tags. Also when you see the title and picture if you do not know of the girl you wwill click on it in interest. Which goes back to the point, you see a title do you click on it because you care? Thanks for your comments.

Her #1 fans and searchers should be her mom and dad. Dumb mom & grandmom are the ones who got her in this predicament. Ugh!
