Last weekend, the Red Pump Project held it’s 5th annual Rock The RED fashion show at Chicago’s Alhambra Palace.

Rock the RED combines a passion for fashion and social justice, while commemorating National Women and Girls HIV-AIDS Awareness Day. Co-founders and hosts, Karyn Watkins and Luvvie Ajayi, welcomed a packed house to an evening of music, fashion and education.

DJ Bonsu provided the soundtrack for the evening as the show featured fashions by designers Akira Chicago, Anastassia, Martina Fanella, Modahnik, Redgi Woods, and Ythak Designs. Evany Turk, a local HIV-AIDS activist was honored with the Ultimate Red Pump Rocker award for her extraordinary service in helping young adults cope with issues regarding living with the disease.

The spectacular evening ended on the highest of notes when Watkins’ boyfriend, Christopher Lee, surprised her by proposing at the conclusion of the fashion show. Her acceptance capped off the wonderful evening.
