What could he have said or done to warrant this? Jay is known for being a witty guy, and has shown over the years that he can deliver a crushing insult with the best of them — check out his sly disses aimed at everyone from Ma$e to Nas to Drake. He could’ve tossed off one too many sarcastic comments about how Rita Ora is going to bring real art back to music or how you can’t sustain a career if you only release music once every six years or how nobody buys EPs anymore. Any of those comments could’ve sent Solange into a rage.

Where’d she learn to scrap like that? Beyoncé can throw on all the gold teeth and door-knocker earrings she can find, and she can name-drop Dirty South rap legends — but it’s clear that Solange has the most Houston in her DNA. She has fight skills that are usually honed in middle school bathrooms or on playgrounds — she did everything except tie her hair up and grab some Vaseline. Keri Hilson should be glad she was slick-talking Bey and not Solange. Nobody wants it with the younger Knowles. Nobody.
Beyoncé
Should she have stepped in? Some are criticizing Beyoncé, who stood frozen while Solange raged, for not coming to her husband’s aid. But what could the pop superstar do? Was she going to risk getting punched or kicked right before they had to walk out to greet the onslaught of cameras gathered for the gala? She was in the toughest position of anyone in that elevator; and she seemed the most committed to keeping up appearances. The photos that surfaced showing the trio of Jay, Bey and Solange immediately after the altercation are quite telling: Solange looks enraged, Jay looks dazed and Beyoncé looks completely unfazed by it all.
