On Saturday June 21, 2014, the city of Detroit and the Hot 107.5 radio family celebrated the 17th Summer Jamz concert at Chene Park.

After nine months of planning and promotions by media director J. Hicks and Ikeisha Baker, the event was almost scuttled due to the untimely cancellation of the most anticipated performance by rapper Rick Ross. Ross was scheduled to headline the Summer Jamz this year but was denied entry into the venue after being met by 100 individuals upon his arrival. According to the Hot 107.5 staff, Ross felt threatened and was “in fear for his life.” The massive mob was allegedly associated with Detroit Native rapper Trick Trick and his “No Fly Zone” campaign, which forbids rappers from performing in the city without obtaining his consent.

While Rick Ross’ scheduled performance was aborted, the other artists such as local budding rapper IceWear Vezzo, A$AP Ferg, B.o.B, Sevyn Streeter, Scarface and Rico Love all had very high-energy performances. Special guest hosts included Deelishis and BET’s former “106 & Park” host Shorty da Prince.
