NBA players, international players and local celebrities were in full force at the RSG Celebrity Basketball Game on Saturday, July 5, 2014, held at Philips Arena. Former New York Knicks player Ronald Blackshear, former WNBA player Rushia Brown (founder of Women’s Professional Basketball Alumni Association) and celebrity stylist Renaldo Nehemiah were among the international athletes and local celebrities who challenged each other on the court. Bishop William Davenport Sr., senior pastor of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, sported the player uniform for the occasion. Before tip off, he delivered the invocation to kick off the game and the day’s activities.
Richard Randolph, founder of the Randolph Foundation, is the “R” of RSG, which is comprised of The Stewart Foundation, founded by Atlanta’s beloved poet Hank Stewart, and the Dion Glover Foundation.
This year’s sports event attracted hundreds of supporters and was themed, “One Life, One Shot, Make it Count.” Proceeds from the event, done in partnership with the Atlanta Dream, benefit students in single-mother households in the form of scholarships. Randolph gave opening remarks thanking participants and fans for supporting the organizations’ mission.
