“I ain’t really keeping up on … the amount of weight. I just wanted to get in some better shape.”
That was rapper Rick Ross’ explanation to Tim Westwood after he was asked about his noticeable weight loss over the past few months. Rozay has reportedly shed more than 100 pounds and the hip-hop star looks slimmer than ever. Of course, Rozay isn’t the first celeb to lose weight, but it is worth noting that he’s been able to shed the weight in what appears to be a healthy manner and got results in a fairly short amount of time.
Ross has been giving most of the credit to his Reebok CrossFit training.
According to Reebok, CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program that is used by many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide. The regimen is not specialized, but is customized by degree to fit the individual.
Actress and Jenny Craig spokeswoman, Kirstie Alley has been the subject of scrutiny and jokes over her long battle with weight loss. She’s lost weight only to put it back on repeatedly. Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson successfully shed 80 pounds after giving birth to her son in 2009. Some have speculated that Hudson’s dramatic weight loss was aided by more than just Weight Watchers, whom she was a spokeswoman for from 2009 until May of this year.
Some male stars that have lost pounds over the years include funnymen Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill. The Knocked Up and This Is the End co-stars were virtual poster boys for the schlubby star movement before Rogen toned up for his role as a superhero in The Green Hornet and Hill impressively lost weight for his role in 2011’s Moneyball. Hill credited a sushi diet and “maturity” for his fitness focus, but he’s recently packed pounds back on and as of May 2014 looked like he was almost back to his old size.
Large-and-in-charge rappers like Fat Joe and the late Heavy D also lost weight. Joe appears to have gained some of it back after a prison stint for tax evasion. Heavy kept the weight off but sadly died at 41- years-old, despite having gotten healthier.
So what’s the secret? It appears that the old way is still the best way: intense dedication and a consistent workout regimen.
Ross told 93.9 WKYS FM, “It was just time for me to tighten up a little bit, you know what I’m saying. As far as, you know, me working out … I have no destination, no specific weight,” Ross said. “And also, I’ve been doing this CrossFit thing. Shout-out to Reebok, we had started doing that last year sometime and you know, it’s just catching up a little bit.”
