A Connecticut man needed a ride to meet with his probation officer and decided to steal a car for transportation. According to reports by Reuters, Gary Harding, 26, approached a woman at a New Haven, Connecticut, grocery store and stole her SUV.
Days later, Harding had a scheduled appointment with his probation officer. But instead of finding a simpler way to travel to his probation officer’s location, Harding drove the stolen SUV to the meeting.
Once Harding arrived at the location, he was arrested by police officers who noticed him on a surveillance camera that recorded him on the day of the carjacking.
Harding is also being investigated for a bank robbery that took place in a nearby town called Wallingford.
Harding has a history of criminal convictions. He is now being charged with first-degree robbery and robbery by carjacking.
