6. Take control of your local political apparatus and the police force. Go vote in massive numbers. Put people in office that adopt your agenda and who have the capacity to write and negotiate for that agenda until it becomes law. Hold them accountable. Understand the game and vote those out who are not playing for us to win. Go to local police meetings. Ensure that the appointed leadership treats your community with value and respect, and then work with them to ensure that the law is carried out in a just fashion. Why would somebody do what’s right if the people most in need of righteous acts pay the least amount of attention.
I’ll stop on those six things. On the seventh, I won’t rest, but instead will do more research, and commit to making the first six a habit for myself and for my peer group. The death of Michael Brown and countless others doesn’t have to be in vain. But it will be, if we allow it. I don’t believe that we will. And I’m going to act like we won’t.
