Celebrities pose with ‘hands up’ at Atlanta Mayor’s masked ball

Producer Will Packer, Mayor Kasim Reed, actor-comedian Chris Tucker, Young Jeezy, rapper-actor Chris Bridges and comedian Jonathan Slocumb

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed co-hosted the  31st Annual UNCF Atlanta Mayors Masked Ball with UNCF President and CEO Michael L. Lomax and UNCF EVP Maurice Jenkins. In attendance for the highly-anticipated charity gala was a host of Atlanta-based celebrities including comedian Chris Tucker, rapper/actor Christopher “Ludacris” Bridges, Jay “Young Jeezy” Jenkins, Antwan “Big Boi” Patton, Will Packer and so many others.

Many of the entertainers joined Mayor Reed onstage and posed for photographers with their hands up, which is a non-violent means of protesting the killing of unarmed black men, in the wake of the shooting death of Michael Brown, 18, by officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri, who witnesses said was shot by the officer in broad daylight with his hands raised.

The event was held on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. The Atlanta Mayors Masked Ball has raised millions to support students who attend Atlanta’s four UNCF member institutions – Clark Atlanta University, the Interdenominational Theological Center,  Morehouse College and Spelman College—Atlanta students attending other UNCF colleges and universities, and all of  the 60,000 students who attend the 37 UNCF member institutions.
