To be a victim of rape by someone you know has to be one of the worst betrayals.
For one Conway, South Carolina, woman, a man she thought she would be safe with turned out to be her rapist. William Mattson, 52, sexually assaulted his nephew’s girlfriend on New Year’s Eve. He thought he could get away with the crime until his nephew came home and heard sounds coming from the upstairs bedroom. The nephew kicked down the door and found his uncle raping his girlfriend. The nephew went ballistic and beat his uncle until the man ran screaming from the house.
The nephew then called police to the home, which is shared by all three. Mattson returned to the home shortly thereafter. When police began to question the uncle, Mattson claimed the sex was consensual, and that’s when the nephew went off once more beating him in front of the police. However, the police did not arrest the nephew. The police arrested Mattson and charged him with criminal sexual conduct in the first degree.
