The Internet has been buzzing around the explosive preview clip of Nick Gordon’s candid new interview with Dr. Phil McGraw, and rumor has it that Gordon was an inebriated, emotional wreck behind the scenes and that he even got violent with Dr. Phil’s staff. Now, Dr. Phil is speaking out on the interview and sharing his side of what happened.

McGraw discussed the interview with Gordon while chatting with “Extra” host Mario Lopez, and he shared that he never intended the interview to turn into an intervention. Instead, it was Gordon’s lawyers who asked him to do so.

“They say, ‘Listen, we need help … I know you came to do an interview, but he is out of control and we are worried for his life. We think he will self-destruct.’ It was clear to me that all of a sudden this interview became an intervention,” McGraw shared.

“He was so animated and so emotionally out of control, I thought he could be dead in a matter of days if something doesn’t happen,” McGraw added.

McGraw also explains that he flew in Gordon’s mother from Florida to help him with the intervention. However, having his mother there didn’t stop Gordon from acting erratically.

“As soon as he saw his mother, he was so happy to see her and he sat down and we started to talk. Every minute or two, he’d jump up and run out of the room, he would grab his phone and turn on a Whitney song, start playing it, start wailing and crying and throw his phone on the floor,” McGraw explained.

And that’s not all that McGraw revealed about the tragic intervention. Read the rest of his story on what happened after the cut.
