Two weeks following a nasty domestic dispute, Phoenix Mercury baller Brittney Griner and Tulsa Shock forward Glory Johnson (wearing a strapless gown by Matthew Christopher) got hitched in Phoenix.
On Friday, the duo and 75 wedding guests trekked to a mountaintop beneath an archway at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, where they tied the knot.
People magazine described the ceremony: “Bouquets and arrangements of white hydrangea, white and coral roses, and peach hypericum berries helped establish their theme of ‘desert elegance’ in the city where Griner plays center for the three-time WNBA champion Phoenix Mercury.
“After the ceremony, they celebrated with a sit-down dinner on the resort’s Falls Terrace, followed by a tiered cake dessert that combined Griner’s favorite, white cake, with Johnson’s favorite, red velvet.”
As previously reported, on April 22, police were called to Griner’s home in Phoenix around 4:30 p.m. after being alerted to a domestic disturbance. When authorities arrived at the home, Griner told police a fight erupted after she threw a dog bowl at the wall. Upon examination, police found that Griner suffered from several small cuts and a bite mark, while Johnson had a busted lip.
Shortly after being hit with a few domestic violence charges, Griner accepted a plea deal to enroll in domestic violence counseling, alongside her now-wife, Johnson. In a statement, Griner said, “It is never OK for an argument to turn physical. This will never happen again, and I take my relationship and my responsibility as a role model seriously.
“I am committed to making positive changes and I plan to use what I have learned to set a good example and help make a difference in the world around me,” she added.
