This year season 5 of the HBO hit drama  Game of Thrones has not disappointed fans with action and intrigue. As the season draws to an exciting close, massive battles between the living and the dead has everyone realizing that “Winter is Coming” should now be changed to “Winter is Here.”

The opening of the season begins with a tying up of loose plot threads from last season. Tywin Lannister is dead killed by his dwarf son Tyrion Lannister who has been spirited across the narrow sea by spy master Lord Varys. The spymaster tells Tyrion that he wants him to meet the “Mother of Dragons” Daenerys Targaryen who he believes is the last hope for peace in the 7 Kingdoms. On the “Wall,” the Nights Watch plays host to King Stannis Baratheon and his armies after they defeated the Wildling army and captured Mance Rayder. Stannis demands that Mance pledge his loyalty to his cause or be burned alive, to which Mance refuses. Stannis, a man true to his word, has Mance tied to a stake and burned; but Jon Snow shoots Mance through the heart just as the flames begin to burn at Mance’s feet granting him a merciful death. Despite his actions, he is not punished by Stannis and is later elected as Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.

Arya finally arrives in Bravos and is admitted into the “House of Black and White,” a guild of assassins. We finally see the home of the “Faceless Men” and their temple of the “Many Faced God.”  Her sister Sansa is travelling with Little Finger, thinking all is well unknown that her fate is to be wed to the psychotic and deranged Ramsey Bolton. Meanwhile, King’s Landing Cersi’s plot to use religion to bring down her enemies has backfired and she finds herself arrested and imprisoned by the fanatical religious order she armed.

The series has not disappointed with the continued strong character subplots and incredible battles. The epic battle between the “White Walkers” and Jon Snow leading the Wildlings did not disappoint.  As the season winds down with two episodes remaining, Game of Thrones continues to attract large viewership and deliver a great story.
