South Carolina makes major move to remove Confederate flag
South Carolina lawmakers voted Monday, July 6, 2015 to remove the Confederate flag from the Statehouse. The bill passed by a 37-3 vote in the state Senate where it faces one more vote on Tuesday before the bill is taken up by the lower House of Representatives.
Republican Governor Nikki Haley, called for the flag’s removal after the June 17 Emanuel Nine massacre in Charleston, South Carolina which took the lives of Emanuel A.M.E. pastor Clementa Pinckney and eight of his church members.
Haley is the final decision maker on the removal of the Confederate Flag once it passes in the House.
