Each year, hundreds of black girls go missing for various reasons. Unfortunately for many of these girls, being trafficked in the sex trade is a reality. This horror befell a 16-year old girl who went missing during the Detroit Jazz festival on August 15, 2014. According to federal law enforcement, the girl was lured to California by Kevin ‘Stac A Dollar’ Keys, 37, of Los Angeles and was prostituted for well over a year. The city of Detroit was put on alert and the public’s help was requested in locating the girl.
The girl was moved from house to house in Detroit and Keys even invited his cousin to have sex with the girl to determine if she was any good. According to special agent Theodore Wolters of the Department of Homeland Security, it was then that Keys began his training. In a filing, Wolters shared, “she needed to make some money in order for them to leave Michigan, meaning prostitute herself out… (Keys) told her that they could make a lot of money if she performed commercial sex dates, as he had done this before with a girl in California..”
The girl began performing sex acts at the Detroit Jazz Festival including in a tent rented by Keys.
Keys also produced child porn with the girl and sent the images and video online. Keys kept all the money and spent a large portion on bus tickets moving the girl from city to city.
The pair soon went to Minnesota where Keys further groomed the girl for prostitution and used social media to advertise. It was only after she fell ill and was hospitalized that her true identity was discovered. Keys has been charged with Sex trafficking of Children, Transportation of a Minor with Intent to Engage in Prostitution, Production of Child Porn and Distribution of Child Porn. He faces 10-30 years in prison for the various charges. The FBI estimates that human trafficking is a $32 billion industry.
