Believe it or not, several famous effeminate men who have come out as gay were previously married to women. While some married before they fully recognized their true sexuality, others used their unions to keep their sexuality a secret from the public.
Most recently, Olympic gold medalist and reality star Bruce Jenner shocked the world when he announced he would be transitioning into a woman. Jenner was married to Kris Jenner for 22 years.
In 1984, another big name in Hollywood, Elton John, married Renate Blauel, a German recording engineer. In 1988, the Grammy-winning superstar revealed he was gay and the couple divorced. John told Rolling Stone magazine that he “was comfortable being gay.” John has since become an outspoken advocate for gay rights all over the globe.
Vincente Minnellii, Liza Minnelli’s father, was also married to several women, including popular big screen star Judy Garland (1945-1951), Georgette Magnani (1954-1958), Danica “Denise” Radosavljevic (1962-1971), and Lee Anderson (1980-1986). Minnelli’s biographer stated that Minnelli was openly gay in New York, but he remained closeted in Los Angeles.
