Congratulations are in order for Philly soulstress Jill Scott.
The “Back Together” singer’s latest album, Woman, will debut at number one on the August 15th Billboard Top 200 chart. This marks Scott’s second consecutive album to enter the charts in the top spot as her previous album, 2011’s The Light of the Sun, bowed at number one also.
With an estimated 62,000 equivalent album impressions, Scott is the first solo female artist to reign supreme on the chart since Kelly Clarkson’s Piece By Piece debuted in March. Woman also ends a long standing drought for female R&B singers on top of the list with the previous being Beyoncé’s self-titled surprise album, which bested the chart in January 2014.
Last week’s top album, Future’s Dirty Sprite 2, fell a notch to the second spot. Other notables in the top ten include the Hip-Hop heavy soundtrack to the Jake Gyllenhaal/50 Cent boxing drama Southpaw, which checked in at number five. Meek Mill’s Dreams Worth More Than Money landed at number eight and rounding out the top ten is Tyrese’s Black Rose.
