For fans of science fiction and fantasy there are very few events as large as DragonCon held annually in Atlanta, Georgia. DragonCon will take place from September 4-7 and is expected to gather 65,000 fans, making it one of the largest conventions held in the city of Atlanta. Fans will gather at The Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta and indulge in four days of science fiction, comic books, computer gaming and other events.
DragonCon 2015 shows the change in diversity in the science fiction/fantasy when it comes to Blacks in science fiction. The featured Black guests this year will include familiar names and faces of the past along with new, young faces of today.
Perhaps the best known faces expected to be in attendance are Nichelle Nichols, who played Lt. Uhura on the classic 1960’s TV series “Star Trek” and Terry Carter, who played Col. Tigh on the original 1970’s “Battlestar Galactica” series.
Among the new faces in science fiction and fantasy at DragonCon will be:
David Ramsey
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Ramsey has appeared on the shows “All of Us”, “The West Wing”, “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, “Ghost Whisperer”, “Wildfire,” and “Hollywood Residential.” He can currently be seen on the hit CW superhero show “Arrow” as John Diggle, an ex-military who is Oliver’s partner, confidant, and bodyguard.
