The Travis Best Foundation hosted the seventh annual Best in the City Weekend in Springfield, Massachusetts, Friday, Sept. 11 and Saturday, Sept. 12. The festivities were kicked off with the annual Travis Best Foundation gala, hosted by Travis Best, a Springfield native known professionally as the point guard for the Indiana Pacers during the Reggie Miller, one of Georgia Tech’s all-time leading scorers and a member of the ACC Legends.
The gala, held at Plan B Burger Bar on the campus of the Basketball Hall of Fame during enshrinement weekend, was attended by basketball greats, including one of this year’s Hall of Fame inductees, University of Kentucky head coach, John Calipari.
The foundation’s mission is to afford youth in the city of Springfield educational opportunities using sports and arts as a means to strengthen leadership and teamwork skills. During the Best in the City Weekend, Best and his colleagues hosted a basketball clinic, sponsored by the Springfield Department of Health and Human Services on the campus of American International College for girls and boys ages 9 -12.
The weekend concluded with a charity adult kickball game where six teams representing community centers in Springfield competed for not only bragging rights but “Art Behind the Tape” exclusive gift bags sponsored by DJ Mars, another Springfield native well-known for touring with artists such as Keri Hilson, Monica, Neyo and many more. The Boys Club Carew Street ultimately claimed the championship prize.
