Jeremy Jones was thinking of a way to brand his music when he came up with a unique idea to promote on social media. But instead of telling strangers to listen to his music, Jones decided to create a Twitter page that would highlight people in his home state, Georgia.
Soon, his Georgia Followers brand became a cool way for Georgia residents to see themselves on social media and discover the hottest events around the city.
Georgia Followers is now becoming a certified media company. Jones recently discussed how he brands his company through social media.
Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are currently the top social media sites. How does your company use each platform?
With Twitter, he best way to brand is to discuss what’s going on in the area such as breaking news and interesting topics. When using Instagram, we post pictures of people in the Georgia area, people who wear our clothes and funny pictures you may see in the state. While on Facebook, we often post events and the cool places to hang out in Atlanta.
Thus far, what has been the biggest social media platform for your brand?
The biggest social media platform has been Twitter. We have 400,000 followers. It has the biggest impact. We do see traction from other sites as well. Facebook is second.
How have you been able to monetize your brand?
We monetize by advertising through tweets. We help companies to get the word out on new locations and special events that they may have. We also sell our own apparel.
When it comes to social media, Black Twitter has proven to be a powerful voice. How has Black Twitter helped to change social media?
Black Twitter has a big influence on social media. Years ago, there would be incidents such as police brutality that occurred and didn’t get much press. But now, Black Twitter allows certain things to become national news when the big outlets ignore it. It’s one of the most powerful social media tools today.
