Carlina Ramirez is not a stranger to hard work and dedication which both have equiped her to land a role as a featured skater on Disney’s On Ice.
Celebrating 100 years of memories, Ramirez shares her experiences on tour with the popular event traveling across the country as well as some of the pastimes she missed while traveling.
You started skating at the age of 10, but when did you know that you could make it a career?
I’ve always loved skating from the first moment I got onto the ice it was fun, it was a challenge and I was mildly good at it, but definitely when I started to compete and perform in shows I just had this rush and I knew it was something that I wanted in life long term.
How are you able to balance having such a successful career, being on tour and taking time just time to spend with yourself doing some of the hobbies you love?
We do get breaks from our tours and we spend time at home; I really have to utilize that time to spend it with friends and family, but one of the great things about touring is that it becomes your normal life so I don’t really feel like I’m missing out, this is my life and I love it.
What are some of the best experiences you’ve had while being on tour with Disney, and what are some things you miss while being on the road?
I love to travel, I was able to go to Thailand, Australia some really amazing place that I would not have the opportunity to see without this career. There have been some definite memorable moments in other countries and continents. I do miss the holidays, it’s nice to be home for the holidays and be around family so that one part I do miss out [on] by being on the road.
How did you feel when you experienced that groundbreaking moment and you felt like your career had gone to the next level?
I feel like I have moments like that every few months, which I love because it’s very humbling when I perform for 10,000 people and you can hear the roar of the crowd. I couldn’t even hear the show playing over the audience, and that moment was very surreal.
Which destination on the tour has been your favorite and why?
I really do love Australia; it’s very westernized so it’s easy for an American to travel there. It’s such a beautiful country, they have so much land and it’s just so gorgeous; definitely one of my favorite places so far.
What is so special about this particular Disney On Ice and what are some of the things that fans can expect?
It starts off with this magic of healthy living pre show, so it’s like a dancing sing-along, which the audience gets to partake in that and it’s really unique to the show. We also have 50 different characters, so you can see everything from 100 years of magic. We have characters from Snow White and Pinocchio to Disney’s Frozen, so there [are] a lot of things that you will remember and things that will keep your attention.
