A divorce with children after years of marriage can be a devastating event to many Black fathers. As Black men and fathers, there are societal and emotional issues that are unique to our group. Some men are able to move on and start again and others spiral into anger, depression and desperation. Apparently, the latter was the story of Glenn Baxter.

Baxtter, 27, was separated from his wife Danica Baxter, 25, and had three children from their union.  A 3-year-old son Reighn, a 2-year-old son Nazyiah and a 1-year-old daughter Zariyah. Glen was known to have anger issues and had threatened at one time to kill the entire family if Danica left him. Tragically, he made good on his promise this week and killed himself and his family by driving into a lake in Tempe, Arizona.

According to police, Glenn is observed on the surveillance footage of a nearby condominium getting out of a silver Nissan Armada and walking towards the nearby lake. He then reentered the vehicle and made a sharp turn towards the lake at a high speed. The car hit a small wall, went airborne and flipped over quickly, submerging the vehicle.

When police and firefighters responded, they found the children were all strapped into their seats. All the victims were pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Before she died, Danica was texting Glenn’s mother about their meeting and trying to talk. Police have stated that the cellphone was left under a park bench.  The last text was sent at 12:15 a.m., Sunday morning and police also state they found a handgun in the vehicle.  Police are treating the whole event as a murder-suicide.
