A woman in New York did the unthinkable because of her desires to have children. The incident occurred after Ashleigh Wade, 22, used violence against a friend in order to steal her baby.
According to the NY Daily News, Wade attended elementary school with Angelique Sutton and decided to reconnect with her on Facebook. However, Wade’s only purpose for reaching out to Sutton was to fulfill her desires to have a baby.
On Nov. 21, Wade invited Sutton, who was pregnant, to her home and their friendship took a deadly turn. Wade stabbed Sutton in the neck several times. Once Sutton died, Wade took the knife and cut her baby out of her womb. When her boyfriend arrived at the home, Wade was drenched in blood and holding Sutton’s child in her arms.
Wade initially told police that she got into an argument with Sutton and was only trying to defend herself when she attacked with the knife. She also said she wanted to save the baby by cutting her out of the womb.
However, it was soon discovered that Wade had an unhealthy obsession with babies. She would often post pictures of babies and baby clothes on her Facebook page and told friends that she was having a child. Wade even created a registry at Babies “R” Us. She even told friends on her page that her baby was due on Nov. 16. But Wade could never prove that she was pregnant.
Wade serves as another example of how counseling should play a bigger role within the Black community. Although she has yet to be clinically diagnosed, it’s evident that Wade suffers from some form of mental disorder that should be treated.
Wade was sent to a psychiatric center for an evaluation, but she has been charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
