Erykah Badu and Nas will soon be working on a new project together, but it may not be what you think.
The legendary New York emcee has signed on to serve as executive producer of a new film starring the soul songstress called The Land.
The movie, written and directed by Steve Caple Jr. along with Lizzie Friedman, follows the story of four teenage boys as they try to escape the streets of Cleveland and pursue the world of professional skateboarding. The foursome eventually cross paths with a local drug queenpin who could put their dreams on hold permanently.
“I’m a huge fan of my man Steve Caple Jr.,” Nas said. “I think he can become the next great filmmaker. I’m also very excited to be working with my former agent and friend Charles King on his first film with his new venture. All great energy around the film, which I believe will yield amazing results.”
Nas will also oversee the film’s soundtrack,
Joining Badu in the cast will be Michael K. Williams, Erzi Walker, Jorge Lendenborg Jr., Kim Coates, Moises Arias, and Rafi Gavron along with rapper and Cleveland native, Machine Gun Kelly.
The Land is expected to premiere at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival in January.
