This weekend, V-103 celebrated its 40th Anniversary by reaching out to R&B crooner Keith Sweat to round up his friends and put on an old school concert, bringing down the roof at the Phillips Arena. It was definitely a party and more of an old-school family reunion as well as the reunion of at least 20 years of radio staff and executives. It was amazing to see the V-103 staff reunite with past members of their radio family and share with the evening with the musical talent their careers were practically birthed around.
The show opened up with 112, followed by an amazing performance with all of the members of Jagged Edge (including the “Meet me at the Alter” singer Kyle, who formerly was banned from the group due to an altercation with his fiancé).
Tyrese also graced the stage.
Between acts, several “surprise” artists stopped through to wish V103 a happy anniversary. Nelly, Keri Hilson, Ludacris, and OutKast members were spotted in the arena and some graced the stage and gave the crowd a warm hello.
Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall stopped through an awarded a proclamation from the city of Atlanta to radio station V103 for the philanthropic efforts contributed and reflected through their community efforts and outreach missions. Bell Biv Devoe put on a fantastic show. Keith Sweat saved his grand finale act to bring out some special friends.
Starting off his show, Sweat wanted to introduce the man responsible for putting out his first album, Teddy Riley. With Lil G from SILK on the piano and Teddy Riley on the keyboard. Sweat was on the side singing and the crowd was going crazy. One of my favorite songs Teddy played was Johnny Kemp’s “Just Got Paid.” That was a great gesture and tribute to the late Johnny Kemp.
Keith Sweat also surprised everyone when Mr. “My, My, My” artist Johnny Gill hit the stage matching Keith Sweat in his royal blue tux.
This was an amazing night. Hopefully, plans are in effect to repeat this same concert in the near future.
