Tasha Smith can breathe easy this holiday season, after walking away this week with a big win in court. As previously reported, the Why Did I Get Married? actress has been living a nightmare.

It all began when her husband, Keith Douglas, filed a restraining order against Smith, despite the pair living under the same roof. Douglas claimed the 44-year-old made multiple threats against his life and was dangerous. Smith countered his claim by filing a restraining order, citing Douglas’ fits of rage. She even accused her estranged husband of sleeping with other women.

A month later, Smith filed for divorce and was ordered to pay Douglas a whopping $7K a month in spousal support. Now, things are looking up for the actress whose marriage was annulled a few days ago on grounds of fraud, reports TMZ. According to reports, Douglas was a man of secrets. In fact, the author and businessman led Smith to believe that he was a preacher, a man of faith with a good moral compass. Only, he was a con man who had been married five times. “She in no way would have jumped within a few months at the chance to be bride number six,” said the judge in Smith’s defense.

Even more, Douglas withheld information about the number of children he has, his criminal record and failing to pay taxes for nearly a decade. For those reasons, Smith is once again a single lady.

If Tasha’s story should teach you anything ladies, it’s to do your research. While we don’t want to be dream killers, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. We live in an age of con men and women, and people who get joy out off pulling off a good catfish. Do yourself a favor and take your dating life one (informed) day at a time.
