There was a standing room only crowd in the Prince Place Cigar Bar in Atlanta for a screening party of the release of the new TV One film “Skinned.” This film serves as LisaRaye’s directorial debut, and based on both the quality of the film and the comments from the cast about working with her, she has definitely found a new skill set that takes her beyond just great acting.
The lead character, Jolie (Jasmine Burke), was treated very differently from her light-skinned sisters growing up and decides to bleach her skin. Not only does the film delve into skin bleaching’s physical, emotional and psychological effects on the individual, their family and professional life, but it also examines other aspects of dark versus light skin and how personal and professional lives can be affected by it and the attitudes many hold.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed even came out to enjoy the screening and share a few words on Atlanta’s rapidly growing TV and film industry. The film is playing exclusively on TV One during January. Check out the gallery to see who was there.
