In 2015, Ashley Graham, 28, made history when she starred in the first-ever plus-size ad to run in Sports Illustrated. Earlier this week, the model+designer-activist made an equally exciting announcement — that she will appear in an editorial in next week’s 2016 swimsuit issue, as part of the popular sports mag’s rookie class.
“It’s official — I’m a @sportsillustrated swimsuit model!!,” she shared via Instagram. “This is a dream come true. Thank you to everyone who stood up for curves — our voices were heard and together we can help me win Rookie of the Year. Stay tuned for voting instructions #beautybeyondsize #islay.”
Needless to say, Graham’s announcement is a big win for curvy women worldwide. Women want to see models who look like them, whether they’re a size 2 or a size 20. Graham’s announcement is proof that the body positive movement is on the rise. Even brands like Forever21 and Aerie have taken notice, by diversifying the images they portray in their ads.
