The Tankards are one of the realest families on reality TV, and they’re coming back for “Thicker Than Water” season 3, Easter weekend. They’re planning on hosting watch parties throughout the country, starting with their premiere show in the Atlanta market on Sunday, March 27, at the Impact Events Center, 2323 Sylvan Rd. in East Point, Georgia at 8pm. The watch party events will be free and open to the public and will also provide guests with entertainment and live performances from the Tankard family themselves. The Atlanta premiere watch party is scheduled to feature father Ben Tankard and daughter Brooklyn Tankard perform live before the show begins.
Jewel Tankard, the matriarch of the family, recently visited her hometown of Detroit where she sat down and gave rolling out an exclusive interview. She updated us on her life on “Thicker Than Water” season 3, her other show “The Jewel Tankard Show,” and her entrepreneurial ventures with Karat Bars and her new jewelry line.
The Tankards have become a household name and you all are coming back for season 3 of “Thicker Than Water.” Tell us what we’re in store for this season.
Yes! The Tankards are coming back, and no one will disappointed. It’s a lot going on. I think that we were very transparent, as we have been, but I think that we actually peeled back some layers. I actually highlighted Detroit and definitely put Detroit on the map. We kind of went back to see where I came from and that I haven’t always been saved, and so I kind of went into some of the juicy parts of my past . In terms of drama, me and Cyrene had some drama. She’s at Howard, and she’s a sophomore. Her modeling game has gone way through the roof and she’s done New York Fashion Week and Miami Fashion Week. She’s trying to stay focused because she definitely got her party on freshman year. We had to tell her to bring it on back! Now, Brooklyn and her dad has some drama too. So, we got some drama, it’s spicy and it’s live. It comes back on Easter weekend and we’re encouraging people to do watch parties throughout the country. Right now, we’re planning on doing them in Atlanta, Houston and Nashville.
Great! We can’t wait to see how the season unfolds. You also have another tv show, “The Jewel Tankard Show.” Tell us about that.
We’re in our second season of the Jewel Tankard Show. It’s on Impact Network, which is the first African American Christian owned network. We’re now in about 50 million homes. Last year when I did the first season, we were only in 24 million homes through a couple of networks. Now, we’ve expanded to more TV networks nationwide. It comes on every Wednesday at 4pm and I’ve interviewed some of everybody, from Phaedra Parks from Housewives of Atlanta, Dr. Heavenly and Dr. Lisa Nicole from Married to Medicine, Tameka Raymond, and the list goes on. And we’ve had some really heart wrenching stories on there and some really good shows. Second season will be popping off right here in Detroit April 11th and 12th. We’re going to be having a live studio, Rickey Smiley is coming, I’ll be intervieiwing him and we’ve got quite a few other guests too. It’s going to be good. We got a lot of stuff set up for second season, so be on the lookout for that.
What else do you have going on? What brings you back to Detroit this time?

I do. I do. I’m actually wearing it. It’s called the Jewel Tankard Collection and it duals, you can wear the pieces as a bracelet where you wrap it or you can also wear it as a necklace. All of my jewelry have confessions attached to it, such as ‘I am smart”, or ‘God Loves You’. Everything that I do is inspirational because I believe in confessions. I believe that the life that I’m living today and the life that you’re living today is really based on what you had to say about your life. So, if you can start speaking everyday, I’m rich, I’m smart, I’m strong, I’m bold, I’m happy, I’m courageous, that thing will just start to manifest.
