The Legends Ball: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants was this year’s theme for the 55th Annual Barristers Ball, which was held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center. The Wolverine Bar Foundation and Wolverine Bar Association hosted the lavish event. It celebrated current leaders who’ve made contributions in the fields of local and national law. This year’s top honors went to famed attorney Benjamin Crump, who is currently the 53rd president of the National Bar Association and the Horatio Williams Foundation, which is dedicated to helping Detroit youth realize personal success and achievement through a series of developmental leadership programs.

“The Ball will recognize the legends of Detroit’s legal community. More important, it will highlight the significance of mentoring. In my estimation, African American attorneys have and will continue to reach even greater heights when they are placed on the shoulders of those who have come before them,” says Randall M. Brown, current Wolverine Bar Foundation president. “Additionally, it is only through our generous sponsors, honorees and attendees that the 55th Annual Barristers Ball will live up to its name and become legendary.”

This year, the ball brought out a record number of attendees as over 1,500 leaders and professionals from the legal, business, civic and political fields attended the event. The event is known as being a celebration of southeastern Michigan’s best and brightest legal professionals and also serves as the Wolverine Bar Foundation’s signature fundraiser. It also commemorates WBA’s 90 plus years of commitment to diversity and excellence in Detroit’s legal community.
