After Old Navy faced backlash for featuring an interracial couple in one of its Twitter ads, several mix-race couples sent love and support to the retailer with photos of their families.
On April 29, Old Navy posted an ad on Twitter featuring what appeared to be a Black woman and a White man with a Black boy on his back. The caption was, “Oh, happy day! Our #ThankYouEvent is finally here. Take 30% off your entire purchase.”
Seemed innocent enough, but many Twitter users responded in outrage. Some people said the clothing company was pushing a miscegenation (or racial mixing) agenda. Much of the backlash about the interracial couple seemed to come from either White nationalists, Donald Trump supporters, or both.
@OldNavy @mak_morn3 Stop pushing mixed marriages. It’s offensive.

@OldNavy Old Navy HATES White babies!
It takes a White mother and a White father to make a White baby.

My family and I will never step into an @OldNavy store again. This miscegenation junk is rammed down our throats from every direction.

Many other supporters even vowed to shop at the retailer more often simply due to featuring the interracial couple and being diverse in their advertising.
