Black families have been suffering through a harsh reality check over the past two weeks as the nation deals with the aftermath of the senseless killings of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling at the hands of the police. And while many Black parents are working on telling their kids the harsh reality of their relationship with police, singer Tyrese explains that the times and #BlackLivesMatter have forced his own family, which was once divided, to become tighter and more peaceful.
According to media reports, Tyrese recently opened up about his home life and spoke about how he and his ex-wife, Norma Gibson, had previously been at odds with each other. According to the singer, things had gotten so bad between he and Norma that last year he had accused Norma of planning to kidnap their 9-year-old daughter, Shayla, and move to Israel, where she is a legal citizen.
However, Tyrese reportedly told the press that he was inspired to bury the hatchet with Norma after seeing the work of #BlackLivesMatter in the wake of the killings of Castile and Sterling. Tyrese allegedly claimed that #BlackLivesMatter inspired him to have a serious heart-to-heart with Norma for the first time in a long time and the couple came to the conclusion that they need to put their differences aside and focus on co-parenting in peace.
Earlier this week, Tyrese posted a photo of his family as they sat down and smiled for a peaceful family dinner together.
“Family dinner……… July 11th an angel was born….. We collaborated on this angel…. Aha! She’s now turning 9 tomorrow and we just can’t believe it……. Spreading family love and light always…….. Thank you #amen for Gods favor and love over my family….. Bringing my family back together and pushing everything to the side on behalf of our angel could of ONLY been Gods favor and love…. Shout to our family the #DieselFamily for my daughters first custom HERMES BAG!!!!! Aha!!! #levelz,” Tyrese captioned the photo.
Well, we’re happy that Tyrese and Norma are working on creating a stronger family unit.
