Being a superstar does not mean you can always help a family member in crisis as Mariah Carey has undoubtedly learned. Carey’s sister Alison A. Carey, 56, who has a history of substance abuse, was arrested for prostitution on Friday, Aug. 26.
Carey was caught up in a police undercover sting operation in Saugerties, New York. Police were following up on complaints that Carey was prostituting out of a local hotel in the town. She was arrested after soliciting money in exchange for sexual favors from an undercover officer posing as a client. After her arrest Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra stated that Carey identified herself as the sister of the famous pop music icon. According to police, Carey was advertising her services as a prostitute on the internet and had been working out of the hotel for about a week. Her ad reads, “I’m a pretty lady looking for guys who are looking to have some fun and get into a world of pleasure that other woman [sic] just can’t provide two [sic] you, woman with the ability to make the earth move for you and to get you to see stars, oh yea with me it’s, ITS SUCH A SWEET, SWEET FANTASY BABY, WHEN I CLOSE MY EYES I COME AND TAKE YOU ON AND ON.” The phrasing of the ad seemed to mimic the lines from Mariah Carey’s hit song, “Fantasy.”
Police are urging men who had sex with Carey to seek medical attention. It was stressed that this was vitally important if the men have had unprotected sex with Carey.
Carey was arraigned in Saugerties Town Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail. She is due in Saugerties Town Court on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
