The inaugural 313 Best In Black Detroit Awards was held in Detroit on Thursday, Oct. 20 at Detroit’s Music Hall for the Performing Arts. The event was hosted by The Michigan Chronicle and Radio One, and it certainly brought out the best of the best Black-owned businesses and influencers that Detroit has to offer.

The BIB Detroit Awards, presented by UAW-Ford, is an endeavor to shine a light on some of Detroit’s most outstanding Black businesses, community organizations, entrepreneurs and influencers. The awards honored over 40 people in categories ranging from Best Attorney, to Best High School, and even Best Soul Food Restaurant, and when it was all said and done, more than 350,000 votes were cast by the Detroit community — which is outstanding. The BIB Detroit Awards gives the community a voice in identifying and elevating those businesses that they support. It’s also an innovative way to poll the community about the businesses and organizations that deserve to be patronized because of their recognized brands and their well-earned reputations.

Rolling out was definitely in the house and got a chance to witness Detroit history firsthand. There were special performances by the exceptionally talented songstress Kelly Price, Detroit’s own Royce da 5’9,” and up-and-coming native Detroit R&B female trio DMK, who recently won Fox’s Next Empire Artist contest last season. Check out the photo gallery below to see who else was in the house. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year.
