For many, college is a time for exploration, self-discovery, learning, stress and late-night partying.
Dinasty Brown decided to take a different approach to her collegiate experience by penning her first book and beginning her journey as an entrepreneur.
At 22, Brown is a published author, mentor, peer educator, licensed real estate agent and entrepreneur.
Rolling out had a chance to speak with Brown about her journey and her new business ventures.
As a student and successful author, tell us about the motivation behind your book #GirlTalk?
Going to college, I noticed a lot of girls who seemed to lack things I was taught growing up in my household, like self-respect and clear judgment, and it inspired me to write this “real talk” book to inspire and remind women that they are queens.
Tell us more about your brand, Queendom Dinasty.
My ultimate passion is for young girls and my brand Queendom Dinasty reflects that. Under the brand, I have my book #GirlTalk, but I also have the Young Boss Bootcamp. The boot camp features an e-course that teaches girls how to start their own business while in school or working. I also recently launched my Glambox subscription box service that features full-size beauty products.
Was there anything in particular that inspired you to write your book?
I was inspired by seeing a lot of women not living up to their full worth. I am passionate about younger girls and I think it’s important to meet them where they are. I personally like to keep things very business oriented and I’ve been in business for years with my first business being a virgin hair company, but I also have my real estate license; so I just want to share my experience with other young girls and women to motivate them to succeed in all that they do.
What advice would you give young entrepreneurs?
I would really encourage them to do what makes them happy. You won’t ever get what you don’t go for so get to it.
