Zeke Thomas wants to raise awareness when it comes to sexual assault against young boys and men. The son of NBA legend Isiah Thomas recently revealed two tragic assaults that occurred in his life.
The 28-year-old DJ shared his secrets during an interview with “Good Morning America.” Thomas, who is openly gay, said the first rape occurred when he was only 12. At the time, Thomas said that he did not understand what was occurring and hated that he was being forced to do something against his will. It took him years to build up the courage to finally tell his parents.
Thomas was also sexually assaulted as an adult. He spoke about an incident where he was raped by a man when he was 27 years old. The man forced himself on Thomas last year. Although Thomas did not press charges, he said that he would if he could find both assailants today.
Thomas shed light on the rapes and sexual assaults that occur against men and young boys. According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, 14 percent of reported rapes involve men or boys. And over 46 percent of male victims reported a female perpetrator.
Thomas is currently speaking out to bring exposure to Sexual Assault Awareness Month. In 2009, President Barack Obama became the first U.S. president to designate April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
During his years as an NBA star, Isiah Thomas was a 12-time NBA All-Star and won consecutive titles in 1988-89.
