A Philadelphia mom went all out for her son’s prom recently. Saudia Shuler, 43, is very proud of her son Johnny Eden Jr., a graduating high school senior with a 3.8 GPA and a standout player on his school’s basketball team. She wanted to give him a trip to the desert kingdom of Dubai, known for to be sought after travel destination for wealthy tourists but decided on another option. Instead of sending her son on the trip. She decided to bring a taste of Dubai to her North Philadelphia neighborhood.
Shuler spent an estimated $25K to ship in three tons of sand, a camel, caterers and commissioned a large mural that took over the block for her son’s prom send-off. The mom also rented a Lamborghini, Range Rover and Rolls-Royce for her son to take his three dates, all dressed in custom designer gowns, to his prom. Her son wore three different outfits for each of his dates.
The whole community turned out to enjoy the food, music, and festivities that Shuler planned for her son. According to Shuler, she survived cancer and a stroke and her son Johnny was by her side praying devoutly for her recovery.
Although she is not Muslim, her son is and she wanted to honor his love and his faith with the party. Her son stated to the media, “At first I was like, it was too much, I don’t really like a lot of attention but it’s worth it. … It was epic, man. I had my family out here. That’s all I really cared about is my family being out here. My mom did her thing, she was the real MVP.”
