Rashad Richey, Ph.D., escaped a life on the streets as a former Gangster Disciple to well-known social activist, television commentator, and nationally syndicated radio host who can be heard locally on 1380 WAOK – CBS Radio and The People’s Station V-103. Known as the “realest man in radio,” he has now embarked on a new challenge, that of a college professor at Beulah Heights University in Atlanta. BHU was founded in 1918, is fully accredited, and has become known as one of the nation’s oldest and fastest growing universities with a Christ-centered learning experience. Beulah Heights University offers undergraduate degrees as well as outstanding MBA and doctoral programs. The campus has roughly 700 students, dormitories, an active student body and room to grow.
Dr. Rashad Richey has been tapped by the university to work as a professor under Dr. Rodney Jackson, Chair of Leadership, Business, and Divinity at BHU. The subjects that Dr. Richey has chosen to lecture on reflect his unique experience as a political strategist, business owner, social activist, journalist, and radio host. Dr. Richey will begin in the fall lecturing on “Leading through Crisis” and “Enhancing Leadership through Technology” under the university’s leadership department. These lectures are in the same spirit as Dr. Richey’s work to illuminate social ills and push practical solutions.
Dr. Richey’s life has been one of challenges and hardships all of which served to mold him into a caring and compassionate human being who has impacted the lives of many across the country and was even recognized by President Barack Obama with a Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for his social activism and leadership. Many listeners to his radio program can attest that he directly and selflessly involves himself to help those who have found themselves marginalized and without a voice. At the age of 36, Dr. Richey will be the youngest professor on the campus and will spark the interests of many potential students in the future as well as impacting the minds of future leaders in the classroom. He stated that looking back on his adolescent years and now becoming a college professor, he has learned that “Everyone has a capacity for change.”
“Beulah Heights University is excited to have Dr. Rashad Richey starting in the Fall of 2017 lecturing in the business and leadership program. His unique personality and influence in the Atlanta market brings practical experience that our students will love. His passion and dedication to issues concerning the underprivileged and disenfranchised are commendable. Dr. Richey will help us achieve our mission to develop relevant global leaders for ministry and marketplace,” said BHU’s president, Dr. Benson M. Karanja
