John Legend is not pleased with President Donald Trump’s reaction to the Republicans’ failed attempt to pass their own version of a health care bill through the Senate.
On Monday, the Senate announced that it did not have the votes to push through the highly unpopular GOP health care bill after two more Republicans announced that they would not vote for it. That put the vote tally at 48, short of the 50 needed to pass this through with a possible tie-breaking vote from Mike Pence.
And, as is his custom, Trump went off on another mindless Twitter rant on Tuesday morning to lambast the failure, suggesting that the Republicans would be able to do what they wanted when Obamacare died: “As I have always said, let ObamaCare fail and then come together to do a great healthcare plan. Stay tuned!”
Legend, who has blasted the 45th president quite frequently since he got into office, could not resist responding, and took to Twitter himself. He wrote, “Your president wants more people to die so he can embarrass Obama.”

The heath care debate has continued to rage as Republicans’ plan was scored by the Congressional Budget Office and would have been expected to leave over 20 million people uninsured over the next few years. However, the GOP has not been able to produce a viable alternative to Obamacare despite having control of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives of Congress and the White House, despite their signature campaign promise to “repeal and replace” Obamacare.
John Legend has been fearless in critiquing Trump. In June, Legend had this scathing assessment of Trump’s presidential qualifications while talking on the red carpet of the Time 100 gala: “He’s manifestly unqualified, not curious, not good at legislating or really anything the job requires,” he said. “He doesn’t have any depth about any subject. And he’s also using the office of the presidency as a way to make money with himself with his businesses, so he’s corrupt. I can’t say anything nice about the guy, I think he’s one of the worst people I’ve ever encountered in public life.”
And in June, Legend joined other celebrities in slamming Trump for pulling America out of the Paris climate accord:
Trump is our national embarrassment.
