OJ Simpson is a free man. He is out on parole after serving nine years in Lovelock Correctional Center in Nevada for armed robbery.
The 70-year-old ex NFL star has spent the last 8.5 years in prison for confronting two sports memorabilia traders in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2007. He was sentenced to 33 years but he was granted parole this past July for good behavior.
Simpson was released just past midnight and before dawn to avoid media attention, according to Nevada State Prisons spokeswoman Brooke Keast. There is no word on who picked Simpson up or where he will plant his feet in his first days of freedom.
Simpson’s lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne, once told ABC News, “He wants to go to Florida, he wants to see his family and hug his family on the outside of prison … He wants to eat seafood. He wants to eat steak. He wants to enjoy the very simple pleasures that he hasn’t enjoyed in nine years…and he wants to do that in Florida.”
Simpson’s children with his late wife Nicole are adults. His daughter Sydney, 31, and Justin, 28, both live in Florida. On June 12, 1994, Nicole and a friend, Ronald Goldman, were stabbed to death outside her Los Angeles home. On Oct. 3, 1995, Simpson was acquitted of charges related to their murders.
