For decades, Essence has been the epitome of defining cultural experiences for women of color. Last year, the iconic Essence brand launched a tastemakers event in Washington, D.C. and Atlanta called My City, 4 Ways. The event had such rave reviews, Essence and Ford decided to take the event on the road. This year, the tastemakers experience was held in Memphis, Tennessee at the vintage, chic venue Propceller.

The event created an unparalleled Memphis cultural guide from the perspectives of four, young local influencers representing Memphis’ social and cultural landscapes: designer Karleen Roy (style influencer), artist Jamond Bullock (art influencer), singer Keia Johnson (music influencer), and Chef D. Arthur (food influencer).

The festival also included curated experiences moderated by co-hosts Essence Lifestyle and Relationships Editor Charreah Jackson along with comedian Loni Love. The line-up included Creative Director June Ambrose, culinary experiences by restaurateur and Grammy-nominated singer Kelis, interactive art installations, and pop-up fashion shops from local designers. The day was capped off with a soulful performance by singer-songwriter Ro James.
