Back in October 2017, Hall County, Georgia, government was undergoing computer maintenance, when an IT worker examined the computer hard drive of David Kimbrell, emergency management director, they uncovered a shocking video file. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, there was a video of a man “lying on his back fully clothed and (appeared) to be asleep or passed out” as Kimbrell pulled down the man’s pants and performed oral sex on him.”
The IT worker alerted his superiors and an investigation was launched. Kimbrell admitted that it was him in the video which seemed to have been recorded in a hotel. In addition Kimbrell stated that oral sex with the unresponsive man had been consensual. During the investigation the victim stated he was around 19 at the time and the incident occurred in Savannah, Georgia. He told investigators that he and Kimbrell were friends but denied a sexual relationship and did not want to press charges.
According to the AJC, Hall County sheriff’s deputy Stephen Wilbanks stated in an email, “Even though the victim in that case had already stated that he did not wish to prosecute, the proper legal protocol is to forward the case to the appropriate jurisdiction to allow them the opportunity to review it and determine their own course of action.”
During the course of the investigation into Kimbrell, a search of his office uncovered a thumb drive. That drive held a video of Kimbrell once again having oral sex with an unconscious man, this time the setting was his home. Police were able to track down the man in the video who reportedly was embarrassed and did not want to press charges against Kimbrell. The victim was afraid that the tape would be played in open court identifying him to the public.
As #MeToo continues to trend, it must be remembered that men can also be the target of unwanted sexual advances and assaults. Most recently, accusations that Kevin Spacey sexually harassed and intimidated men in the film industry shocked his fans. Also, actor and former NFL star Terry Crews announced that he intends to sue the Hollywood talent agent Adam Venit who grabbed his genitals and made lewd comments to him at a party. Crews is also suing the WME agency and the former head of its Motion Picture Group for sexual assault and sexual battery.
