A 911 call made by Tylon Pittman, 5, caused members of the Bryam, Mississippi, police department to rush to his home to deal with a threat. Tylon is really into the whole spirit of the Christmas season and realized that someone was trying to steal presents and he had to warn the police. According to Officer Lauren Devellem young Tylon was able to give the name and description of the would-be thief and it turned out to the infamous green-haired Grinch. Apparently, Tylon was watching a video of the Dr. Seuss classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and freaked out.
Adult family members were shocked when Devellem showed up at their home with a smile on her face as she put the parents at ease. According to the Clarion-Ledger, Devellem stated, “Our dispatcher posted a status on Facebook that she had received a call from a little boy … and he told her he thought the Grinch was going to be coming to steal his Christmas. I asked her to send me his address.”
Visiting at the time was Tylon’s brother TeDera Dwayne Graves, who was home from the Air Force on leave. “I can NOT make this up!!! My 5-year-old brother called the police and said that the Grinch is stealing people [sic] Christmas and he don’t [sic] want him to steal his so they really came to our house!” stated Graves on Facebook.
To add to the experience another squad car pulled up to the house with a suspect in the backseat. It was another officer dressed as the “Grinch” who Tylon was allowed to officially warn and later book into custody at the police department possibly saving Christmas for an untold number of children and Cindy Lou Who.
