If Meghan Markle caused international shockwaves when it was announced that she got engaged to Prince Harry of the British royal family, her next announcement may cause a full-fledged volcanic eruption.
The woman who was unconventional as an actress in Hollywood is remaining true to her game as an unorthodox bride-to-be. When she joins the royal family, Markle has a simple but earth-shaking request for her wedding day: Markle wants her Black mother to walk her down the aisle.
Sources close to the bride told E! News Markle wants to buck tradition and have her mother, yoga teacher Doria Ragland, take the role that is usually reserved for the father.
Markle’s White father, Thomas Markle, is reportedly reclusive and abhors the spotlight. Markle is said to be obsessed to have her mother give her to her soon to be husband, Prince Harry, at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
This would be a radical departure from any normal wedding, especially one that is steeped in tradition, and for the royal family, this does come as somewhat of a surprise.
Sources say that Markle knows this is a royal wedding that will be seen by tens of millions, but she wants to “break a tradition or two,” E! reports, on her big day. This would actually be fitting because Markle has already broken several traditions already. She’s an American, she has been divorced, she is biracial, and she is an actress.
No one who knows Markle is surprised since she and her mother are very tight. Her father, on the other hand, has often been called “reclusive” and has rarely been seen in public and never been photographed with his soon-to-be royal daughter.
Nevertheless, when Clarence House announced that Prince Harry had proposed and Markle had accepted, her parents issued a joint statement through the palace.
“We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry. Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents,” Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland, who are divorced, said. “We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.”
In related news, Thomas Markle was seen in Mexico buying beer and cigarettes and when he was grilled by the paparazzi about whether he would be excited to give his daughter away in May, he reportedly “beamed” and said, “Yes. I’d love to.”
Well, interesting. We’ll have to see how this bit of news is going to play out in the Markle household.
