Michael Steel earnestly believed that the voices of Black conservative voters could be better served and heard by the Republican party. So vehement was his belief and support in “The Party of Lincoln” that he was later appointed Republican National Committee chair. This was a major deal among many Black conservatives who felt their voice would finally be respected and their lot in life improved. They could not have been more mistaken as Steele soon found himself marginalized and unfairly made to resign when the Republican party adopted an ideology and political platform that saw Donald Trump elected to office.

Now, in the wake of the recent news that President Trump had an affair with porn star Stormy James while he was married to Melania, the hypocrisy of Republican party morality has been laid bare. On a recent airing of “Hardball with Chris Matthews” on MSNBC, Steele had this to say about evangelicals who turn a blind eye to Trump’s immorality and lack of values: “I have very simple admonition: just shut the hell up and don’t preach to me about anything ever again …After telling me who to love, what to believe, what to do and what not to do and now you sit back and the prostitutes don’t matter, the grabbing the you-know-what doesn’t matter, the outright behavior and lies don’t matter, just shut up!”

A shocking statement from a person who was literally the token Black leader of the Republican party. Here is the clip of the interview below:
