A certified nurse charged with the care of elderly and disabled patients has been arrested for sexual assault.
Guettie Belizaire, 34, was taken into custody on April 8, 2019, and accused of sexually assaulting one of the patients at the Brookshire Nursing Assisted Living Facility in Melbourne, Florida, during her overnight shift.
On December 13, 2018, coworkers noticed that Belizaire had not been seen for at least 90 minutes during her shift and began looking for her. According to WESH-2 News, Belizaire was eventually discovered partially nude in the bathroom of a male patient. The staff noticed that the patient looked distraught and confused. Police were soon called to the scene, and the patient told police, “She jumped on me and raped me.”
According to Daily Mail, the man suffers from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Because he said he was raped, the man was taken to a local hospital where a rape kit procedure was done. Despite being caught in the man’s room, Belizaire initially told police she was never in the room with the patient. At the time of her questioning, she submitted to a DNA saliva swab as part of the investigation. When the nursing home management was informed of the attack, Belizaire was fired the very next day.
The DNA results from the rape kit and the swab confirmed that a sexual assault did take place. Those results were received on March 25. Belizaire has been charged with lewd and lascivious molestation of an elderly person and abuse of an elderly person. She has a bond of $10,000 and is being held at the Brevard County Jail. She will face an arraignment hearing on those charges sometime in May.
