The daughter of the late venerated filmmaker John Singleton is petitioning his estate for an allowance to cover her expenses that she’s had difficulty meeting.
Cleopatra Singleton, 21, informed the estate that her father used to pay all of her expenses since she is a student with common responsibilities such as a cell phone, car note, utilities, etc., TMZ reports. She said she has had difficulty meeting these obligations since the director’s shocking passing on April 28, 2019, from a severe stroke.
The daughter is, therefore, asking for a monthly allowance of $2,778 per month. Cleopatra Singleton is also asking for a one-time lump sum of $4,000 to cover her overseas college study program.
There may be complications because Singleton’s mother, Shiela Ward, is the administrator of John Singleton’s estate and there have already been well-documented conflicts since the famed director’s death.
The director of such classics Boyz N the Hood, Higher Learning, Shaft and producer of Hustle & Flow, has an estate worth an estimated $35 million, according to TMZ.
The division of Singleton’s assets is a long, drawn-out process that could take longer than a year to settle and Cleopatra Singleton said she needs an allowance until the matter is resolved.
