Former NBA player and Texas Tech All-American Andre Emmett was shot and killed on Monday, Sept. 23 in front of his home in Dallas. He was 37 years old.
According to the Dallas Police Department’s report obtained by NBA.com and ESPN, Emmett was in front of his home at about 2:30 a.m. when he was “approached by two unknown suspects as he sat in his vehicle in front of his residence in the 1800 block of N. Prairie Avenue. The suspects displayed a handgun and an altercation ensued, during which the victim was shot as he ran away from the suspects.”
The report stated that a neighbor called 911 and Emmett was officially pronounced dead at the hospital.
Emmett, 37, was an All-American and the all-time leading scorer for Texas Tech University while playing for legendary head coach Bobby Knight from 2000-2004. Emmett was inducted into the Texas Tech Red Raiders Hall of Fame in 2018, according to The Athletic.
TTU released a statement about his untimely death.

According to ESPN, Emmett was the 35th pick in the 2004 NBA Draft and played two seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Jersey Nets
Afterward, Emmett became a two-time All-Star in the NBA’s G League and won the 2014 NBA G League All-Star Game MVP. Emmett also played professional basketball around the world, including China, Lebanon, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
Emmett completed his pro ball career in 2018 with the newly formed BIG3 and was saluted by Ice Cube for his contributions to the league:
